Make a Homemade Peppermint Latte

The holiday season is in full swing as Christmas trees, lights, presents, and shopping are on the mind of people all over the world. It is a beautiful time of year filled with love, family, delicious foods, and even better drinks! Could you imagine sitting around the Christmas tree, opening gifts, and smelling the sweet minty flavor of peppermint as you sip your delicious cup of coffee? Peppermint Mocha Latte’s are all the rage in coffee shops this time of year, so, as an American, it’s our duty to share this delicious recipe, so you can make them to share with friends and family. Not only will it add a nice touch to any party or family gathering, but it will surely give you some brownie points!

If you have Peppermint Flavored syrup already, skip to part 2. 

PART 1: Make Your Own Peppermint Syrup

What you’ll need:

  • 3 Full Size Candy Canes (Cut up or Crushed)
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1 Cup of Sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine candy canes, water and sugar into a medium saucepan
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes
  3. Remove from heat and cover for 30 minutes
  4. Strain and store

PART 2: Latte Time

What you’ll need:

  • Brew 1 shot of espresso
  • 1 Cup of Frothed Milk
    • If you don’t have espresso maker or milk frother, click here to learn how to make a latte using a french press
  • 1 Tsp of Peppermint Syrup
  • Whipped Cream
  • Crushed Candy Canes

Directions:

  1. Place 1 TSP of syrup into mug
  2. Add shot of espresso
  3. Fill to top with frothed milk
  4. Top with whipped cream
  5. Sprinkle of crushed candy canes
  6. Enjoy!
